“If we fundamentally believe that humanity cares and wants to do good, why don’t we get more involved?”

Where it all began
Over the course of many, many years (yes I'm that old) I have seen some great things, and some not so great things, all done in the name of philanthropy.
Have a read through my story and let yourself think, what things are most important to you? What mark do you want to leave on the world?
The earliest memories I have of charity and philanthropy is a conversation I had with my father when I was 10 years old. He told me, “when people offer to help you, you should let them, as it helps them more than it helps you.” This used to confuse me, as how would getting my bike fixed by someone benefit them? It wasn’t until some time passed that I began to really understand the concept of his statements.
“It’s better to give a gift, than to receive it.”
The gift of giving. A crucial idea that has been ingrained in us since the dawn of time. The idea that helping someone is as rewarding as a gift in itself. These simple ideas have shaped how I look at the world, even though it can seem like a cruel place at times, the interactions I have with everyday people make me believe it can be restored. It might be my overly optimistic rose-tinted glasses, but I really believe in humanity, that we care about each other and can work together to do good.
